| Yanni’s Too #7 – July 2027 - Coeymans . |
|
A sultry, Canadian-smoke-layered late afternoon (AQI 100+) found DP8 gazing over the railing at Yanni’s Too on our seventh visit to the Coeymans shore on the Hudson River. A summer visit to water should happen at least once during the summer. The docks were full but the river was quiet except for one empty barge scooting downstream, with an at-times gusty tailwind pushing it along. That same wind would occasionally make its presence felt at our table even though the low-80s made for a comfortable spot. The view across the river is of Lower Schodack Island, just beyond which lies Schodack Island in Columbia County. The Y2 menu is a quintessential ocean menu with plenty of shellfish offerings and a few fish. One can find a burger, a steak, a few chicken, a pasta or two but is overwhelmingly seafood and most of us leaned in that direction. Although this menu would appear to be sufficient, our Y2 experience has taught us it is the specials sheet that is the go-to. This special sheet is longer than the regular menus of other restaurants. And just to prove a point, and to highlight my use of new technology, I highlighted the photo of the special menu on my desktop, accepted the offer to turn it into text, and I have re-formatted so the highlights are readable below. It proved beneficial to have reservations, with Y2 fuller than we have ever seen, including inside. Ambiance is quite casual as one would expect. No one was wearing the bare minimum but no one was dressed better than jeans and a collared shirt. The tables can take all kinds of weather, chairs are comfortable, table settings are plastic cups and water pitchers, tape-bound fork-knife-napkin, and the small of a warm river water. Waiter Olivia was proficient, young, attentive, and an asset to Y2. The drink order was plenty of water, several beers, and a wine sneaking in. The bill per couple, all included, could have ranged from $75, more likely close to $100, and possibly more if several drinks were part of the mix. We had arrived at 6:15 and departed about 8:15, with a long wait after dessert was served. The drive home might have allowed for a vision of the red-hot orange marble that passed as the sun in the smoky sky. As always, catching up with the news is part of our monthly events. Travel tales were part of our mix, with the Teators returning from England, the Notars from north Maine, the Karnes from Buffalo, and Kriss from Alexandria Bay. If more, I missed it. Other tidbits included: Kriss with a bum knee, all of us cutting grass and putting up with smoky days, Deb T and her GLP-1 related weight loss, Christopher and his self-driven weight loss, the Notars seem close to making a decision on a new residence, yard sales, Nate on the Mohawk river with a new pontoon board, World Cup soccer, river riding, summertime vibes, busy roads, culvert replacement on CR 67, hot tubs, the whereabouts of our other DP8ers, garden work, the Deb Karnes #½ golf tournament, critters in the gardens with hostas especially fair game, the local big-time movie filming near Ravine Farm, and more I either missed or have forgotten! |
